THE ECONOMIC CRISES AND THE DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS IN THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
Resumo
The article discusses how democratic societies react toproblems derived from economic crises. The article argues that recenthistory shows that economic crises do not necessarily produceauthoritarian regimes. The main argument developed along the articleis that democratic institutions are based on the assumption that divergentperceptions, conflicts and economic crises are natural phenomena ofsocial life. As a consequence, democratic regimes tend to do better indealing with economic crises and with inevitable social and politicalchanges, and this is true even for developing countries.
