In 2005, researchers discovered that a change in a gene that affects the healthy protein JAK2 appears to play a role in PV growth. JAK2 is one in a collection of on/off switches that control when cells grow as well as split. In PV, this on/off switch is embeded the on setting, creating cell growth to proceed. |
